A foreign national who does not meet the conditions for being granted the refugee status may be granted the so-called subsidiary protection.
In cases where returning to his/her country of origin could expose that person to a real risk of serious harm through:
- a death sentence being pronounced or an execution being performed;
- torture, inhuman treatment or penalty;
- serious and individualised threat to life or health arising from common use of violence against civilians in a situation of an international or internal armed conflict.
